Once in a dream in India

In the dream “Sports Master”, the only plump fellow we have encountered here asked us to organize a sports day. “Of course”, we replied. On the day of the event Josh sat at a desk on a stage and welcomed the athletes. As he explained the rules of Ultimate Frisbee and the Swedish lawn game Koob, a few of the visiting coaches instructed the athletes to get up from their places so they could get a head start in the pre game marching and calisthenics. We were outraged and chased the visitors through the exits and wound up at Jacob’s House septic pit. Turns out is was just a misunderstanding. The visitors were not being rude they were only reading the fine print in the Jackson and Matt’s tournament instructions. The part about each team being required to throw handfuls of rock and broken brick into the pit before they could qualify to play. Dressed in salwar kamis, Carly and Loren used their best “beast voices” to direct the filthy cascade. Erin and Katie carried freshly painted white and blue signs pointing to the various sports venues while Daniel did card tricks dressed in a dhoti and turban. Harry, Max, Jackson and Katie single handedly defeated all challengers once the Ultimate game got started, making numerous highlight catches and throws. They promised to talk about each spectacular play for months to come. No one understood Koob. A grand day was had by all. Where were Barb and Jim in this dream? And what could it all mean? Without reaching too far, could this be an allegory for York India 2008 from the point of view of the supervisors? Stay tuned…

In all seriousness we have been very impressed with our travelling companions’ attitudes and initiative. They have performed above and beyond all of our expectations. They have made a positive impact on the kids and staff at FFC. It is a pleasure travelling with these 10 students. Thanks for all your comments on the BLOG. They are all in our conversations daily.

Hi you all!
Thank you all for your great posts and wonderful photos. My personal favourite is Katie looking sooo refined wielding what looks to me like some kind of cleaning cloth from the kitchen sink - can't be since she has never used anything like that. Also the biking shot was a scream - TYS students with no helmets! We watched Darjeeling Limited last night and felt very envious of your adventures.

That is an amazing dream Barb & Jim! I wonder what else you're putting in your 'tea' each morning!
Loving all the posts, and crave more photos- they are fantastic- the smiles tell us so much- both about our kids and the children at FCC. Would love to see more of the FCC facility, and of course the kids.
Hope the heat is manageable. March Break has started here (hooray, say the remaining Hanson 3), and yet another snowstorm is coming our way. We think about you all everyday and are so proud of what you are doing on the other side of the world.
We love and miss you all- stay safe and stay in touch- we love the phone calls,
K

Hi everyone!
Your blog entries leave me in awe of all that you are contributing and all that you, in turn, are experiencing. I wish I was there (as a fly on the wall), to see it all first hand. I can't wait to hear Loren and Carly's 'beast voices' - don't think I've heard it before?!?!?!
Another big snow storm is heading our way tomorrow. Enjoy the heat and please keep writing and posting the pictures. It is the highlight of my day!

A warm hello to all of you from Daniel's grandparents,

What a joy it is for us to follow your day-to-day activities, the fun and hard work of your mission.

For us, the photos with the little ones are the most precious. It's so obvious how much your visit means to the children -- it must be so gratifying for you to bring the gift of your contribution to these so less fortunate youngsters.

Surely, you don't miss this much prolonged winter that we are 'enjoying' here and are relishing the warm weather of India. We just came back from Mont Tremblant during an amazing winter storm to find also more snow here in the Toronto area - so endulge in India's warm weather!

To all of you dear young people, stay happy and safe. We know that you are treasuring this experience.
Just as all your families, we are thinking of you non-stop und look forward to hearing your stories in person.

Love to you all,

Omi and Opa Somann
